Obituary for Elroy De Boer

Elroy De Boer
Elroy De Boer, 82, of Le Mars passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2017 at Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars. Rev. Mike Metten will officiate. Burial will follow at Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday.

Elroy Eugene De Boer was born on January 14, 1935, in Le Mars, Iowa to Roy T. and Ruth (Borgman) De Boer. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1953. On October 18, 1956, Elroy enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Camp Hanford in Washington and served with the military police. He earned an Honorable Discharge on July 17, 1958. Elroy took a position with Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative (NIPCO) and worked as a substation electrician for 40 years.

On September 7, 1962, Elroy and Judy Seipp were married in Le Mars. Together they had a son Steven. He was a member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Le Mars and served as trustee for many years. He was involved with Le Mars Little League as a member of the board of directors and as a coach. Elroy was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and gardening. This included annual fishing trips to Lake of the Woods in Minnesota, local Iowa lakes, or wherever the walleye may be biting. Elroy enjoyed watching sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also very handy and could most often be found tinkering with something. Most recently, Elroy was attending Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars.

Elroy will be lovingly remembered by his son and his wife, Steven and Lori De Boer of Ankeny, IA; two grandchildren, Joshua De Boer and Jacquelyn De Boer and a great-grandson, Logan De Boer all of Tucson, AZ; a sister, Sylvia Krommendyke of Worthington, MN; a sister-in-law, Ramona De Boer of Franklin, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Vera VerHoeven; brothers, Marvin “Bud”, Delmar and Jerrold De Boer; sisters-in-law, Marian De Boer and Evelyn De Boer; and brother-in-law, Henry “Doc” Krommendyke.
