Obituary for Donald Ardell Luksan Sr.

Donald A. Luksan, Sr., 79, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. A Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Luke Cargin of the Le Mars Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday prior to the Memorial Service.

Donald Ardell Luksan was born on October 15, 1938 in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Fritz Gustav and Aloua Bertha (Ernst) Luksan. He started his education in Mapleton and, after his family moved, he graduated from Hinton (Iowa) High School in 1958. During his high school years, Donald enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. He would serve for the next 10 years with the IANG in Le Mars.

On March 7, 1959, Donald and Lorraine Marienau were united in marriage at Merrill, Iowa. They made their first home in Hinton. Donald worked at various occupations that included construction, plumbing and farm work. The family moved to Colorado in 1971 and returned to the area in 1979. At that time, Donald began a longtime employment with Wells Dairy in Le Mars. He worked in maintenance and refrigeration at the north plant.

Donald enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also collected and enjoyed shooting guns. He was a conservative at heart and followed the Republican Party.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Luksan of Le Mars, IA; his children, Donald Jr. and Marsha Luksan of Le Mars, IA; Pamela and DeWayne Parker of Salem, MO, Sonya Hamman of Kingsley, IA, Larry and Ann Luksan of Le Mars, IA and Tanya and Daniel Kuecker of Le Mars, IA; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, DeAnna Graham of Hastings, NE; and a sister-in-law, Eleanor Marienau of Ireton, IA.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Roy Dean Graham; great-granddaughter, Kiley Cheyenne Richardson; and sons-in-law, Dale Graham and John Hamman.
