Lorena Christina Becker was born on May 10, 1916 in Remsen, Iowa, the fifth of seven children born to Alvin and Meta (Toedt) Christophersen. At a young age, the family moved to Union Township where Lorena attended school. She lived in Union Township until she met and married John Leland Becker on August 29, 1939 in Le Mars, Iowa.

Lee and Lorena made their home on a farm near Le Mars. Together they farmed and raised their family until moving to Le Mars in 1984. Lorena and Lee loved to dance and were chosen as best dancers by Lawrence Welk when he played in the area. They also loved to play cards with friends and neighbors and ended those evenings with a big lunch. She belonged to a Bridge and Pinochle club and played Pinochle with her friends at Prime Living just three days before she left us. Along with playing cards and dancing, Lorena loved to cook!

Lorena was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars and participated in Circle. She also made volunteer visitations at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Lorena thoroughly enjoyed people and entertained many in her home. She would strike up a conversation with anyone she met. There were no strangers after meeting Lorena. She loved her family and enjoyed participating in her grandchildren’s lives.

Grateful to have shared her life is her children, Linda Siggins of Ripon, CA; John Becker and his wife, Dianne of Spirit Lake, IA and Jay Becker and his wife Kim of Le Mars, IA; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, Lee; six brothers and sisters.
