Obituary for Donna Marie Dorr (Shaw)

Donna M. Dorr, 83, of Marcus, passed unexpectedly on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday.

Donna Marie Shaw was born on November 23, 1934 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Frances (Freeman) Shaw. Following high school graduation, Donna attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls where she earned a degree in education. She would later further her education at Northwestern College and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.

Donna moved to Marcus, Iowa to teach at the elementary school. She met Richard Dorr and was married in Marcus in 1957. After teaching for several years at the elementary school, Donna took a position as the Librarian at the Marcus High School. Her final teaching position was as a Media Specialist in the library at Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.

Donna continued working as an aid at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Donna’s greatest pride was her grandkids. She always wanted to know what they were doing. She loved to read, talk politics with her kids, watch the Iowa Hawkeyes and play Bingo.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses, Lenny and Marjorie Dorr of New London, NH, Kip and Beth Dorr of Pasadena, CA, Angela and Creel Brown of New York, NY, Andrea and Bryan Timmerman of Atkins, IA; 10 grandchildren, Benjamin Dorr, Alexander Dorr, Caitlyne Dorr, Zachary Fuhr, Amy Fuhr, Riley Brown, Alexandria Timmerman, Brooke Timmerman, Austin Timmerman and Brody Timmerman; brothers, Hugh (Patty) Shaw, Leonard Shaw, Jr.; and her sister, Judy Gasper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marsha Charmaine; sister-in-law, Linda Shaw and her brother-in-law, John Gasper.
