Le Mars, Iowa – Ruth M. Elliott, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Orange City Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Fr. Kevin Richter, Fr. Richard Ball and Fr. Paul Eisele will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Saturday. Pallbearers will be Brian Klein, Darrin Recker, Doug Klein, Pete Feller, Nic Kramer, Mark Van Voorst and Eric Elliott.
Ruth M. Murphy was born January 8, 1922, in Matlock, Iowa, the daughter of Dan and Ella (Wilson) Murphy. She graduated from the Sheldon High School. During World War II, Ruth worked in California as “Rosie the Riveter” building military aircraft. It was in California that she met her husband J. Larry Elliott.
Larry and Ruth were united in marriage on August 12, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sheldon. They resided in Indiana while Larry was in school. They later moved to Alton, Iowa where together they owned the Rexall Drug Store. Larry and Ruth moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1976 while Larry went to college. The couple returned to Alton and established Alton Chiropractic Clinic. Ruth assisted her husband in the office. Larry passed away February 21, 2008. In August, Ruth became a resident of Landsmeer in Orange City, Iowa.
Ruth was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Her interests included bowling and golfing. She was very excited and proud of her "hole in one" she got while wintering in Arizona. Ruth was a very devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She will be missed very much but is now with her two loves, Larry and God.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, L. Doyte and Susan Elliott of Greeley, CO and Paul and Ginny Elliott of Roscoe, IL; two daughters Ellen and Jake Klein of Alton, Iowa and Teresa and Duane Penning of Granville, Iowa; grandchildren, Amy and Ben Edge and Chris Elliott of Greely, CO, Brian and Rachel Klein of Sheldon, IA, Brenda and Darrin Recker and Doug and Krista Klein of Granville, IA, Melissa and Pete Feller of Remsen, IA, Heidi and Nic Kramer of Hospers, IA, Katie and Josh Aberson of Oklahoma City, OK, Ashley and Mark Van Voorst of Sioux Center, IA, Eric and Nikki Elliott of Pecatonica, IL and Crystal and Jim Foy of Chicago, IL; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Wright of Iowa Falls, IA; sister-in-laws Loretta Murphy of Sheldon, IA and Gen Murphy of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters and their husbands, Helen and Burdette Haakinson, Maxine and Don Gintert, brothers, Les and Betsy Murphy, Roy Murphy and a brother-in-law Burt Wright; and her husbands’ sisters Saralee and Calvin Bennet, Sue and Bill Beasley and Sharon Hamilton.
