Le Mars, Iowa – Carol Zimmerman, 87, of Waterville, Minnesota, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waterville. A Graveside Service will be held at the Stanton Township Cemetery, rural Merrill, IA at 12:15 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2009 with Rev. George Gilmour officiating. Funeral procession will leave Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. In the case of inclement weather, the funeral will take place at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Carol Grace Zimmerman was born on December 15, 1921, in Plymouth Township, rural Merrill, the sixth of seven children, born to Walter G. and Anna L. (Lippke) Zimmerman and was raised on the family farm. She attended country school and worked on the family farm, until 1946 when the farm was sold. Carol, her parents and two sisters, then moved into Le Mars. Carol took some business courses and started her work career in Le Mars which included 11 years at Central Telephone Company, 10 years at Pews Implement and Auto dealership, and approximately 10 years in factory work in the sewing profession. In addition, she spent several years as the primary caregiver for her aging parents.
Carol was an avid gardener and her garden was a delight to all who drove by her home on Central Avenue. She was also an excellent seamstress and sewed bridal gowns and apparel for family members. Carol loved the Lord and studied the Bible her whole life. She was a former member of the Le Mars Bible Church and volunteered her time in evangelism efforts sharing the love of Christ.
In 1996, after the death of her sister, Evelyn, Carol left Iowa, and moved to Waterville, MN to be near her younger sister, Pearl and her family. In 2008, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Center in Waterville, where she was involved in baking activities, Bingo, and Bible Studies.
Carol is survived by her sister, Pearl Smith of Burnsville, MN, 6 nephews and 3 nieces and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth & Shirley Zimmerman, Roy & Wilma Zimmerman, Noble & Dorothy Zimmerman, a sister and brother-in-law Lois & Harold Rees, one sister Evelyn, one brother-in-law Loren Smith, one niece Beth Honkomp and one great-niece Stephanie Gilmour.
