Obituary for Terry F. Sitzman

Terry F. Sitzman, 69, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 21, 2014 while hiking in Casa Grande, Arizona. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Father Kevin Richter will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars with the family present at 4:00 p.m. The rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Saturday.

Terrance Francis Sitzman was born on July 10, 1944 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Vivian (Nuebel) Sitzman. He graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1963. Following his education, Terry began his career as a carpenter.

Terry enlisted in the United States Air National Guard on January 26, 1965. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and earned an honorable discharge on May 28, 1969. Terry returned to Le Mars and continued his work as a carpenter.

On June 24, 1972, Terry and Arlene Hahn were united in marriage in Le Mars. Terry was a member of the Local Carpenter’s Union #948 in Sioux City, Iowa. He worked on numerous projects in the area. In November of 1984, Terry took a part time position with the United States Post Office in Le Mars. In September of 2002, he retired from carpentry and began full time work with the post office in Le Mars. On March 31, 2009 he retired from the post office.

Terry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. He was also an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Terry enjoyed traveling, camping and being with his family. He liked adventure and loved almost anything outdoors. The last two winters were spent in Casa Grande, Arizona where Terry hiked, golfed and worked on remodeling his new home.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Arlene of Le Mars; a son, Jason Sitzman and his wife Kristi and their daughter Teagin of West Des Moines, IA; a son, Jed Sitzman and his children, Whitney and Alyssa of Sgt. Bluff, IA; a daughter, Teresa Maxwell and her husband Michael and their children, Kyle, Catherine, Alexandra and Victoria of Valdosta, GA; a sister, Carol and Tony Reuter of Olathe, KS; three brothers, Allen and Peg Sitzmann, Lance and Patty Sitzmann and Vernon and Janna Sitzmann all of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
