During our summer break from school Allen and I were helping my Dad build the Sitzmann house up by the park. Dad had to go pick up a load of lumber and instructed the two of us to place all the floor joists on the line he had drawn on the plate. After he left we put all the joists in place and nailed them securely We did not realize that we had lined them up on the wrong side of dads pencil lines. The whole floor was off by 2 inches. Al figured out that if we cut off 2 inches of the plate which was resting on the cement block and with a sledge hammer slid the entire floor back 2 inches. To cover our tracks the 2in we cut off the plate was positioned at the other end of the house. Dad never knew what we had done and thought we had done a good job while he was gone. We had some good laughs that day.
