Dorothy Joan (Plendl) Tentinger, 94, of Le Mars, formerly of rural Merrill, Iowa passed away on Monday, December 7, 2015 at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellendale. Father David Hemann and Monsignor Mark Duchaine will con-celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in rural Merrill. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home; with family present at 4:00 p.m. A Rosary will take place at 4:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.

Dorothy Joan Plendl was born on June 18, 1921 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of George A. and Agnes (Connor) Plendl. She was raised and educated in Union Township, Plymouth County, IA where Dorothy graduated from Union High School.

On December 3, 1943, Dorothy and Wallace R. Tentinger were married at Fresno, California where Wally served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Dorothy worked in California as a “Rosie the Riveter” to aid in the war effort. After his discharge from the military Dorothy and Wally made their home on a farm near Adaville, Iowa. They would later farm near Merrill, Iowa for several years. In 1991, they retired and moved to Le Mars, Iowa.

Dorothy was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. She was previously a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellendale where she participated in the Altar Society and was active in teaching CCD/Religious Education.

Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She enjoyed being with her family most of all. Dorothy also too pleasure in quilting and crocheting. She also was a very talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Mark and wife Rosalie Tentinger (Waterloo, IA) and their children, Allison and Jeremiah Longnecker (Braydon, Leah and Bailey), Michelle and Stephen White (Jackson, Everett and Ramsey), Matthew and Jill Tentinger (Lily and Emma), Jon Tentinger, Phillip and Tiffany Tentinger (Christian, Hailey and Peyton), PJ Tentinger (Tatum); her son Robert and Kathy Tentinger (Aurora, IL) and their children, Zachary, Quinn and Evan, her son Bruce and Kathleen Tentinger (Cedar Rapids, IA) and their children, Jakob and Jacki Tentinger (CJ, Cooper, Ben and Lucas), Erin and Aaron Le Grange (Emily, Gustafson, Isaac and Thomas), Brian and Meghan Tentinger (Maura and Audrey), Katie and Loren Hartelt (Kendall and Talia), her daughter, Marcia and Kelly Fried (Polk City, IA) and their children, Jerrett and Tania Fried (Avery, Jaxson and Tenley), Kara and Jeff Millet (Sidney), her daughter, Ann and Michael Weiler (Olathe, KS) and their children, Morgan and Austin, her son, James Tentinger (Merrill, IA) and his children, Bethani and Cody Pratt (Rayne), Ross, Rachel and Brookelynn, her daughter, Margaret Tentinger (Omaha, NE) and her children, Derek and Holly Hummel (Cecilia and William) and Auri and Heather Hummel (Piper) and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally on September 10, 2001; two sons, Ross and Gary; her 3 brothers, Leonard, Vincent and Steve; and 4 sisters, Helen Groetken, Rita Dunn, Collette Groetken and Rose Ann Majeres.
