Le Mars, IA – William “Bill” Welter, 86, of Le Mars, IA passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday January 9, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Parish-St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Kevin Richter will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation on Tuesday prior to Mass.
William Eugene Welter was born on May 16, 1929 in Corwith, IA to Rufus and Dorothy (Loebig) Welter. He graduated from Corwith High School and from Hamilton School of Business in Mason City, IA. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
On April 29, 1952, he married the love of his life, Roberta “Bobby” Arndorfer at St. Benedict, IA. Bill was an IRS agent and retired as a manager after 30 years of employment. He was proud of the fact that he trained altar servers at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bill enjoyed volunteering at Gehlen Catholic School and with the Meals-on-Wheels program. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Bill loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Freddy.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his son, Daniel Welter of Le Mars, IA and his son Christian (Jessica) Welter; his daughters Sue (Don) Mohning of Salix, IA and their children Katie (Scott) Allen, Donovan and Nora; Mike (Jaclyn) Mohning and daughter Audrey; Jim Mohning and Andy (LeAnn) Mohning and children Brynlee and Jase; Jenni (Dan) Langel of Le Mars, IA and their children Kari (Bryce) Hemme and children Everley and Gavin; Cole (Bri) Langel and Alex Langel and friend Lindsay Heeren; Cathy Darland of Le Mars, IA and her children Nick (Eileen) Darland and son Ethan and Chris Darland; Mindy (Norm) Herbst of Merrill, IA and their children Michelle (Corey) Duckett and Angela Herbst; Mary (Randy) Rasmussen of Columbus, OH; Becky (Jason) Minnick of West Point, NE and their children Delayna, Ashley, Jared and Ava; his brother Robert Welter of Mason City, IA; sister Dorothy Skitch of Lakewood,CA; sisters-in-law Leona Welter of Corwith, IA, Rosy (John) Fangman of Britt, IA, Ethel Kohlhaas of Luverne, IA and Ida Mae Arndorfer of Wesley, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bobby; 2 brothers in infancy; his sister Mary Jane DeGroote; brother Tom Welter; sister-in-law Jean Welter; his wife’s parents George and Louise Arndorfer; his brothers-in-law Al Kohlhaas, Melvin Arndorfer, Bob DeGroote, Loren Arndorfer and Doug Skitch.
