Wilma P. Todd, 92, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Pierson, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Rev. Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home with the family present from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Wilma Pearl Todd was born on February 8, 1923 on the family farm near Pierson, Iowa, the daughter of McKinley and Pearl (DeWitt) Duncanson. She attended grade school at Rutland #5 and graduated from Pierson High School. Wilma furthered her education by attending Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa. After earning a teaching certificate, Wilma began teaching country school in the Pierson area. She taught for five years prior to her marriage.
On May 28, 1950, Wilma and Lawrence Evert Todd were united in marriage at Holly Springs, Iowa. They made their home on the family farm near Pierson. Wilma and Lawrence were involved members of their church and community, farming together and living on the family farm until the summer of 2015 when they moved to The Gardens in Cherokee. She enjoyed her family and friends through a long and active life.
Wilma was a life long member of the Pierson Christian Church. Her church was a pivotal point of her life. She was also a 75 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Along with her church, her family was the center of all that Wilma did. Playing cards and the annual Easter egg hunt were some of the activities she enjoyed with them.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Lawrence E. Todd of Cherokee, Iowa; two children and their spouses, David O. and Jolene Todd of Pierson, Iowa and Sarah and Rick Mensink of Harmony, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kevin Canterbury, Kyle (Melinda) Canterbury, Landon Canterbury, Matthew (Courtney) Todd, Kathleen (Kevin) Blocher and Jennifer (Scott) Hirschman; great-grandchildren, Seth, Sydney, Maxwell, Tessa, Hudson, Ethan, Bryson and Brinley; lifelong friends, Alice and Ruby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and his wife, Wilbur and Francis Duncanson; and a nephew, Tom Duncanson.
