Obituary for Faye Van Leeuwen (Jacobsma)

Faye Van Leeuwen, 87, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars. Dr. Nevada DeLapp will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Faye’s grandchildren will be her pallbearers.

Wilma Faye Van Leeuwen was born on February 17, 1929 on the family farm near Hospers, Iowa to Clarence and Florence (Faber) Jacobsma. After graduating from Hull Western Christian High School, Fay attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Sioux City. She graduated in 1949.

On August 7, 1952, Faye and Don Lee Van Leeuwen were united in marriage. They lived in Orange City and Cherokee, Iowa for a few years prior to moving to Le Mars in 1958. During those years, Faye worked part-time in nursing along with raising her family.

Faye was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars and, in the past, served as its secretary. She was an avid reader, enjoyed baking, knitting and crocheting.

Grateful to have shared her life are her seven children, Patricia (Richard) Oelkers of Klamath Falls, OR, Jim (Janet) Van Leeuwen of Le Mars, IA; Bruce (Theresa) Van Leeuwen of Coos Bay, OR, Nancy Schofield of Manson, IA, David Van Leeuwen of Chapel Hill, NC, Susan (Frank) Buchholz of Le Mars, IA and Timothy (Kristi) Van Leeuwen of Urbandale, IA; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don on May 7, 1999; infant son, Brian Keith; and a brother, Stanley Jacobsma.
