Obituary for Sherry Lee Roepke (Dunnington)

Sherry Lee Roepke (Dunnington)
Sherry L. Roepke, 74, of Kingsley, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Rev. Ken Kraft will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the funeral service on Thursday.

Sherry Lee Roepke was born on September 17, 1942 in Martinez, California, the daughter of Winfield and Phyllis (Hane) Dunnington. When Sherry was a young child, her family moved to a farm south of Moville, Iowa. She graduated from Moville High School in 1960.

Sherry met Armand Roepke at the Moville Drive-in and the two became high school sweethearts. The couple married on March 27, 1960, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. They made their first home on a farm near Kingsley, Iowa. Along with assisting Armand on the farm, Sherry and two of her friends cleaned area homes. Sherry was very proud of the fact that all three of her daughters became school teachers. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens on the farm. Sherry was also patriotic and loved her country.

Sherry will be remembered for her kindness. She was constantly sending cards, making food and visiting others in need. She was an excellent cook, pecan pie was her specialty. Sherry kept active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives by attending their events and activities.

In earlier years, Sherry taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. With all of her activities, she somehow found time to attend her Bible Study and read the entire Bible. Sherry loved her cats and her Golden Retriever, Meggie. She looked forward each year to the Plymouth County Fair. Armand and Sherry spent time together visiting area antique shops and spending Friday evenings with friends. Elvis was one of her favorite entertainers.

Grateful to have shared her life is her husband of 57 years, Armand Roepke of Kingsley, IA; daughters, Stacie Lindgren and her husband Scott of Clark, SD, Donna Stevenson and her husband, Drew of Merrill, IA and Cathy Lange and her husband, Jerry of Audubon, IA; grandchildren, Matthew (Molly) Lindgren, Jordan Lindgren, Jacob Lindgren, Samuel Lindgren, Andrew (Hillary) Stevenson, Jennifer (Craig) Ahlers, Chris Stevenson and special friend Shannon, Hannah Lange and Joshua Lange; great-grandchildren, Grady and Madelin Lindgren, Payton, Lucy and Miles Stevenson and A.J. Ahlers. a sister, Sandy (Roger) Petersen of Sioux City, IA; a brother, Mark Dunnington of Olathe, KS; a brother-in-law, Jim (Joan) Roepke of Le Mars, IA; a close family friend and caretaker, Shelly Bohlke; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister-in-law, Shari Dunnington.
