Obituary for Roger Francis "Ruger" Nussbaum

Roger F. “Ruger” Nussbaum, 69, of Le Mars, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Military honors will be conducted by Wasmer post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Roger Francis Nussbaum was born on April 1, 1948 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Conrad C.H. and Viola Ole (Fiedler) Nussbaum. He attended Le Mars Community Schools prior to enlisting in the United States Army. Roger served at Fort Carson, Colorado prior to earning an Honorable Discharge on June 13, 1969.

Following his service in the Army, Roger returned to the Le Mars area where he farmed with his father. When his father passed away in 1993, Roger and his brother, Gary continued with the farming operation. Roger was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars and Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and watching westerns. Roger was also a Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his brother, Gary Nussbaum of Le Mars, IA; a special friend, Jean Gengler and her son, Chris of Le Mars, IA; nephews, Justin Nussbaum of Le Mars, IA and Aaron Nussbaum of Omaha, NE; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Nussbaum of Le Mars, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several aunts and uncles.
