Obituary for Jimmie Dean Heeren

Jimmie Dean Heeren, 84, of rural Remsen, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. Private family services will be held with burial and military honors at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa.

Jimmie Dean Heeren was born on August 5, 1934 on a farm west of Le Mars, Iowa, the son of John Albert and Deloris (Sampson) Heeren. He attended school and ROTC in Dallas, Texas prior to enlisting in the United States Navy on September 14, 1954. Jimmie served as a sonar operator on the submarine USS Menhaden during the Korean Conflict. He was primarily stationed at San Diego, California prior to earning an Honorable Discharge on August 19, 1959.

Jim was united in marriage to Margaret Engard on December 28, 1958 in El Cajon, California. They were blessed with four children; Diana, Debra, Janet and John. Jim and Margaret farmed and raised livestock south of Marcus in Tilden Township.

His greatest joy in life was the time spent with his family. He will be remembered for his love and kindness and encouraging words. He was the best husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Jimmie had been a member and elder of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of Pieper American Legion Post #220 of Remsen, Iowa.

Grateful to have shared his life, is wife of 60 years, Margaret Heeren of Remsen, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands, Diana and Steve Beatty of Vinton, Iowa, Debra and Mike Rassel of Franklin, Kentucky and Janet and Brian Woltman of Le Mars, Iowa; a son, John Heeren of Remsen, Iowa; grandchildren, Angela (Brad) Sefcik of Marion, Iowa, Matthew Rassel of Springfield, Tennessee, Jeremie (Katie) Rassel of South Byron, New York, Daniel (Leah) Beatty of Little Rock, Iowa, Melissa Baker of Woodburn, Kentucky, Allyson (Chris) Larson of Le Mars, Iowa and Brad Woltman of North English, Iowa; and 14 great-grandchildren.
