Obituary for Kenneth Ray Van Grouw

Kenneth R. Van Grouw, 79, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Dr. Nevada DeLapp will officiate. A private family burial service will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd and will continue until the service.

Kenneth Ray Van Grouw was born on September 21, 1939 in Orange City, Iowa to Arie and Ada (Vande Vegte) Van Grouw. He graduated from Western Christian High School. Ken married Audrey Vander Schaaf on July 29, 1959 in Middleburg. Together they raised six children.

In the 1970’s Ken began a truck driving career that continued until he retired. After leaving the truck, he started a carpet cleaning business that kept him busy until his health declined in 2017. Ken enjoyed working with his children and grandchildren in both the trucking and carpet cleaning business as well as watching a good Minnesota Twins game in his spare time. Ken was an active member of the New Hope E. Free Church in Orange City before becoming a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Le Mars, IA.

Ken is survived by his wife, Audrey of 59 years and their six children, Arlan (Gail) Van Grouw of Orange City, IA, David Van Grouw of Alton, IA, Kevin (fiancé Lisa Cochran) Van Grouw of Johnstown, CO, Connie (Mike Anderson) of Sequim, WA, Laura (Scott Van Wyk) of Le Mars, IA, Stephen Van Grouw of Orange City, IA as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, Milton (Joan) Vander Schaaf of Hardwick, MN, Herlon (Joan) Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA, Henrietta Vander Broek of Orange City, IA, June (Harold) Driesen of Hull, IA, Delbert Vander Schaaf of Orange City, IA, Roger (Charlotte) Vander Schaaf of Lake Wilson, MN, Helen (Don) Statema of Hospers, IA, Arlys Zomermaand of Sioux Center, IA, Gilbert Schelling of Hull, IA, Betty Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA, Sharon Vander Schaaf of Sioux Center, IA and sister-in-law Eleanor Van Grouw of Orange City, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Eugene; and one grandchild, Kent Van Grouw; brothers-in-law, James Vander Schaaf, Wayne Vander Schaaf, Bud Vander Broek and Ed Zommermand; and sisters-in-law, Wilma Schelling and Elda Vander Schaaf.
