Obituary for Delores Elaine Grauer

Marcus, Iowa – Delores Elaine Grauer, 90, went to her Heavenly home on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Kevin Roop will officiate. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2019 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Delores Elaine Grauer was born on November 23, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was raised in Marcus, Iowa and graduated from Marcus High School in 1946. During her high school years, Delores played basketball, played percussion in the band and was a majorette.

On October 5, 1947, Delores and Floyd Grauer were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. Together they farmed and raised their family one mile west of the church. Along with farming, Delores raised chickens and had two large vegetable gardens. She canned and baked as well as quilted and sewed. She and Floyd belonged to the Snow Birds snowmobile club, the neighborhood birthday club and several card clubs. They traveled throughout the United States with their family and with Pioneer Seeds.

Delores was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She participated in Ladies’ Aid, LWML and was a Confirmation Mentor. She later became a member of Peace Lutheran Church when she moved to Marcus. She volunteered at the Heartland Care Center and the Marcus Fair. Delores was a devout Christian and was truly concerned about others.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Virginia “Ginny” Riebhoff and her husband, Pastor John of Kingsley, IA, Sandra “Sandi” Carter of Marcus, IA, Jan Irwin and her husband, Dr. Tom of Cherokee, IA and LuAnn Kunzweiler and her husband, Steve of Marcus, IA; 11 grandchildren, Michelle Haines, Amy Westbrook, Kristi Mishler, Becky Mishler, Melissa Kieling, Dr. Nathan Irwin, Jaclyn (Scott) Peterson, Dr. Allison (Dr. Derrick) Wilcox, Kelli (Derek) Hill, Erica (Benjamin) Wetherell, Jesse (Sydney) Kunzweiler; a grand dog, Sushi; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim McGee.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Wilma McGee; husband, Floyd; a son, Douglas Grauer; sisters, Betty Joyce, Barbara Halstenberg and Marica Crooks.
