Randall Joe Messelhiser was born on July 20, 1993 in Pierre, South Dakota, one of three boys born to Timothy and Barbara (Brown) Messelhiser. He was raised in Le Mars and attended Le Mars Community High School.

RJ worked as a mechanic at Randy’s Iron Works, Route 3 Tire and Kunkel Trucking. He loved to work on anything mechanical. As a young boy he would watch Barney, build creations with Legos and spend hours playing with Matchbox cars, destroying them and playing demolition derby. RJ was a daredevil who loved skateboarding, snowmobiling, building ramps and jumping bikes. RJ had several dogs growing up that he adored.

He later began fabricating and driving derby cars in the area. RJ would help anyone that needed it and would do whatever he could to help. He also liked any type of popsicle. Closest to his heart were his boys, Raylun and Kane and they all enjoyed watching Cars, Transformers, Paw Patrol and Power Rangers. The most fun he had was riding 4-wheelers and motorcycles with his boys. RJ was an amazing dad and “funcle” and always made sure his boys and nieces and nephews knew he loved them.

He will be dearly missed by his sons, Raylun and Kane of Granville, IA and one child on the way; parents, Tim and Barb Messelhiser of Le Mars, IA; his other half, Keila Preuss of Marcus, IA; brothers, Stephen Messelhiser of Le Mars, IA and BradLee Messelhiser and his wife, Ariana of Remsen, IA; his grandparents, Arlene and Larry Luft of Le Mars, IA, Vic and Linda Brown of Estherville, IA and Nita and Randy Hall of Sioux Falls, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
