Kingsley, Iowa – Marilyn Adell Monlux, 67, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away Friday
December 6, 2019 at her home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Marilyn’s
family has entrusted the Johnson – Earnest Funeral home with arrangements. Expressions of
sympathy may be shared through

Marilyn was born on October 15, 1952 in Sioux City to Deloss & Margaret Monlux. She
graduated from Central High School in 1971. Following high school she married and had two
sons before seeking a career in law enforcement. She was hired by the Sioux City Police
department in 1983, trained at the State Police Academy (DesMoines), and became the first
active duty female police officer in Sioux City.

During her career Marilyn served both on patrol and as a detective (serving children and other victims of sexual assault), and was flown out to support the first responders of the federal building bombing in Oklahoma City. She was atenacious advocate for victims, a dedicated police officer, and well respected for her courage,
common sense, fairness and compassion. She received numerous letters of commendation
throughout her law enforcement career.

After retiring from the Police Force, Marilyn was a bus driver for the Kingsley School District
for many years. She always went out of her way to make kids feel valuable and special.
Hobbies and passion included a lifelong love of horses, antiques and thrifting. Her children
were her world and she included them in her passions, especially making sure they all learned to
ride horses. Marilyn will be remembered for her kind and generous nature, choosing to always
share and forgive.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Sabrina Monlux, and Bo Barber, and
numerous friends and family that loved her dearly

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, son Tim Barber and her best friend

Sabrina. My heart felt sympathy goes out to You. Was shocked to hear of Marilyn's passing. Met her at the New leaf and we became good friends, Was going to call her and send a Christmas card and got busy with Grand kids activities. Just remember she was a wonderful lady and loved hearing of stories of work. My prayers are with You! Margaret Corzilius Cherokee

Sabrina & Bo,
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear mother. You have my deepest sympathy.

Your mother and I were never close friends, but I had the utmost respect for her. She was a kind and generous person who always went out of her way to help others who were in need. I am sure that is why she was drawn to a career in law enforcement. She pioneered the way for me and so many other women. I will forever be in her debt.

I know she was extremely proud of both of you. she spoke about you every time we ran into each other. Be comforted in the knowledge that she loved you deeply and unconditionally.

May she rest in peace, cradled in the arms of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

I am lost for words with hearing the passing of Marilyn. My mom is Sharon Johnson (Murphy). Marilyn would come down to Omaha to visit my mom and I always made a point to make it over to see Marilyn when she was in town. Sabrina, hold on to the great memories of your mom, lean on your support system- do not grieve alone. I would look at Marilyn as such a strong woman- and she always smiled! Sabrina- we are here in Omaha if my mom and I can help you in anyway. Marilyn, I will remember you always and you can rest peacefully! I love you! Bless the family through this time and always!
