Obituary for Betty Lou Saltsgiver (Schulz)
Betty Lou Saltsgiver, 68, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars following a courageous battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Luke Cargin will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Betty Lou Saltsgiver was born on August 15, 1951 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of LeRoy August and Mildred Rose (Peterson) Schulz. She was raised in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1970. Following graduation, Betty went to work at Vander Meer Bakery in Le Mars. She later met and married Mark Saltsgiver on September 22, 1979 at the Church of the Nazarene in Le Mars. After taking some time off from work to raise her family, Betty went to work at Life Skills Training Center. She worked there for 19 years prior to taking a housekeeping position at Floyd Valley Hospital. After 5 years she retired, although she maintained some odd jobs during her retirement.
Betty thoroughly enjoyed camping. She also liked to knit, crochet and play games on her tablet. She was very social and visiting with others in person, or on the phone, was another pastime. She looked forward to breakfast gatherings and shopping trips with her sisters. Of course, her family was most important and she was always happy when her grandchildren were around.
Grateful to have shared her life is her husband, Mark Saltsgiver of Le Mars, IA; two daughters and their husbands, Stacy and Colin Williams of Gainsville, FL and Misty and Jason DeMan of Le Mars, IA; a son and his wife, Matthew and Whitney Saltsgiver of Orange City, IA; grandchildren, Hunter Shimer, Mason Shimer, Cole Saltsgiver, Josie Matgen and Gavin Fisher; brothers, Manuel and Nancy Schulz, Darrell and Kathy Schulz and LeRoy Schulz all of Le Mars, IA; sisters, Sharon Keller of Le Mars, IA, Diane Kamstra of Orange City, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen (John) Jaros, Shirley (Bill) Ainsworth and Paulette Lewis; a brother, Duke (Sandy) Schulz; a sister-in-law, Betty Schulz; brothers-in-law, Pete Kamstra and Charles Keller; nephews, Lane Dimmick and Heath Bernel; and nieces, Mickey Schulz, Terri Meyer, Terri Lewis and Linda Larkin.
