Le Mars, Iowa – Ronnie G. “Huggy” Hargens, 62, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2020 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, Le Mars. Rev. Shawn Brooks will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 20 with the family present from 5-7 p.m. and a prayer service with a time of sharing memories at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Monday. Masks and social distancing is appreciated. The family has asked friends and family to wear black and gold attire in honor of Huggy’s love for the Hawkeyes.
Ronnie Gene Hargens was born on January 7, 1958 to Virtus and Lois (Joens) Hargens in Denison, Iowa. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1976. He was united in marriage to Karen Dirks and to this union his daughters Krystle and Rachel were born. Huggy worked highway maintenance for the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) for 30 years, retiring in April 2016.
Huggy enjoyed socializing with his friends and family in Le Mars. He especially loved the time spent with his five grandchildren. Ronnie loved fishing and watching football and golf. Go Hawkeyes! He enjoyed spending time playing slowpitch and fastpitch baseball and softball in his younger adult years.
Ronnie is survived by his daughters; Krystle (Casey) Clarey of Le Mars, IA and Rachel (Ryan) Lehmann of Sioux Falls, SD; his mother, Lois Hargens of Le Mars, IA; his siblings, Linda (Darwin) Huls of Le Mars, IA, Larry (Tami) Hargens of Valrico, FL, Janice (Lon) Sitzmann of Kingsley, IA, Dennis (Kathy) Hargens of Le Mars, IA and Darrell (Kim) Hargens of Le Mars, IA; his grandchildren, Gavin, Harper, Macie, Jade and Emmett Clarey; several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
Preceding him in death are his father, Virtus Hargens; brother, James Hargens; infant sister, Diane Hargens; and his grandparents.
