Obituary for Anna Mae Weicht (Hamstra)
Anna Mae Weicht, 74, of Oacoma, South Dakota, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends with a celebration of life service at 7:00 p.m. A private family burial will follow at a later date at the Eden Cemetery in Hudson, South Dakota. Anna Mae Hamstra was born on May 11, 1946 in Artesia, California, the daughter of Berdenna Wilimina (Zwart) and William Hamstra. As a young girl, her family moved to Sioux Center, Iowa. She attended high school in Le Mars, Iowa and later graduated from Akron (Iowa) High School. On May 9, 1964, Ann and Allen Malcom were married at Elk Point, South Dakota.
Throughout the years, Ann held various occupations including working as a waitress at the Truck Haven Café in Le Mars. She married her true love, Dave Weicht on November 11, 1986 in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their first home in Melbourne, Iowa. Dave worked throughout the Midwest constructing Hy-Vee Grocery Stores and Ann often worked at neighboring Hy-Vee stores during that time. She also cooked at Winona State University for a brief time. Upon retirement, Ann and Dave moved to Oacoma, South Dakota.
Ann enjoyed fishing and camping with her family. She also enjoyed gambling trips to the casino with family and friends. Her retirement years were spent with family during holidays and hosting reunions at Chamberlain. She also gardened, canned and baked. Her strong will and dedicated work ethic were an inspiration to her family and friends.
Grateful to have shared her life is her husband, Dave Weicht of Oacoma, SD; a daughter, Penny Tabbert and her husband, Brian of Hudson, SD; a son, Bill Malcom and his wife, Leslie of Altoona, IA; a son, Troy Malcom and his wife, Rita of Dell Rapids, SD; a step-daughter, Becky Weicht of Eldora, IA; a step-son, Alan Weicht of Eagle Grove, IA; grandchildren, Sara Gotto, Adam Koopman, Jaime Koopman, April Gotto, Eric Tabbert, Tyler Tabbert, Lacey Jo Malcom, Faith Malcom, Ashton Malcom, Madison Sue Weicht, Brian Roberts and Jessica Hondo; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Hamstra of Fresno, CA, Jerry Hamstra of Sioux City, IA and Terry Hamstra of Le Mars, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kim Malcom; grandson, Michael Tabbert; great-grandson, Eli Koopman; and a sister, Juanita Colwell.
