Larry H. Tolzin, 69, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 following a brief illness. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa with Rev. Timothy Geitz officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to socialize and celebrate Larry’s life. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Tuesday. Expressions of sympathy may be directed through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to the Orphan Grain Train.
Larry Henry Tolzin was born on September 27, 1951 in Worthington, Minnesota to Clarence and Lenora (Dierks) Tolzin. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Elementary and later graduated from Fulda (Minnesota) High School. He was active in cross country and basketball. He furthered his education at Worthington State Junior College. After graduation, Larry took a job constructing mobile homes in Slayton, Minnesota.
On July 1, 1972, Larry and Jacqueline (Jackie) Tiede were united in marriage at the Church of Christ in Parkston, South Dakota. Larry furthered his education at Jackson Area Vocational – Technical Institute and graduated in telephone communications. Larry began a longtime career in the telephone industry. He worked throughout the state of Iowa, including DeWitt, Audubon, Harlan, Hospers, and retired from WesTel in Remsen, Iowa.
Faith was foundational in Larry’s life. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and served as an Elder, Trustee and President. He enjoyed golfing, traveling throughout the United States and taking long drives. Following his grandchildren’s activities was very important and he often assisted his boys with home improvement projects.
Larry was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He was grateful to have shared his life with his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Tolzin. He loved and supported his two sons and their wives; Seth (Olivia) Tolzin of St. Louis Park, MN and Aaron (Melissa) Tolzin of Le Mars, IA. He cherished his grandchildren, Sam and Sylvia Tolzin of St. Louis Park, MN and Isaac, Isaiah and Ella Tolzin of Le Mars, IA.
Larry is survived by a brother Robert (Carol) Tolzin, brother in law Roger Haar, sister in law Joyce (Bruce) Frerichs, brother in law Jim (Cathy) Tiede, sister in law Jan Harmon, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Elijah Simon Tolzin; a sister and her husband, Jeanette and Doug Beckman; a brother, Richard Tolzin; a brother in law Eldon Harmon; and a sister in law Judy Haar.
Larry is loved and will be missed by many.
