Carrol Virginia Kindler, 82, of Merrill, Iowa passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Mercy One in Sioux City, Iowa. Due to the Covid -19 mandate a private family funeral service will take place at the Merrill United Methodist Church. Rev. Lisa Millen will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Public visitation with masks and social distancing will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Merrill United Methodist Church. The family will be present to greet friends from 5 – 7 p.m.

Carrol V. Kindler was born August 7, 1938, to Howard and Virginia (Trim) Sperry in Greeley, Colorado. She lived in a small underground house with her parents and 6 siblings. She spent a lot of time on her grandparent’s ranch with her siblings and her cousins, riding horses and playing outdoors. She attended small country schools in Colorado, spending her last 3 years at Woodrow High School where she played basketball and was a cheerleader. She graduated in 1956 with a total of 4 in her senior class. After graduation, Carrol attended business school in Denver, Colorado and eventually accepted a job at Martin Marietta as a clerk where she met Raymond. After a brief few months of dating, Ray and Carrol knew it was meant to be and he proposed in a grocery store parking lot. Carrol enthusiastically said yes and they were married in Last Chance, Colorado on December 3, 1959, with Carrol wearing a beautiful fitted satin dress her mother made for the ceremony.

Ray and Carrol’s first home was in Topeka, Kansas. With Ray’s schooling and jobs, they moved to Denver, then Trinidad, Colorado and eventually settled in Merrill, Iowa in 1969. Those days were tight on money but filled with love. Carrol was known for her loving sweet spirit and her love of the Lord, her family, and her friends. She was a member of the Merrill United Methodist Church and established life-long friendships with some of the wonderful people she met there. When it came to family, Carrol was a dedicated mother and was especially proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandson and would glow as she spoke of them. She became the loving second-mom to Tiffany Kayser and Nicki Gaumnitz, taking care of them while their parents worked. As both of these ladies started families of their own, she became an adopted-grandma for their 4 girls as well.

Carrol loved to travel with Ray during their 42 years together and their photo albums of family and trips are extensive. While at home or travelling, she loved to crochet. She made afghans and hats, providing them to friends, families, babies, and the cancer center. Anyone that knew her likely ended up with a treasure that she created.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kristi Miller of Sumter, SC and Yvonne Pridie and her husband, Pat of Hinton, IA; grandchildren, Alison Finch, Kathleen Atwood and her husband, Josh, Holli Finch, Elizabeth Kindler and fiancé, Jerran, Jacob Pridie, and Kara Pridie; great-grandson, Emerson Atwood; a step grandson, Travis Pridie and finance, Bridgette and their daughters, Addison and Quinn: a brother, Irvin Sperry and his wife, Karolyn of Little Rock, AR; sister, Jeraldine Sperry of Aledo, TX; and a sister, Beverly Knox and her husband, Vern of Tonopah, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Raymond Kindler; daughter, Renae Kindler; grandson, Robert Miller; brother Jerald Sperry; sister Shirley Sperry, and brother Norman Sperry.

Carrol’s family wishes that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in her honor to the Le Mars Christian Needs Center, P.O. Box 44, Le Mars, IA 51031.
