Betty Jean Webb was born on June 4, 1943 in Sterling, Colorado to Adam P. and Marguerite (Kaiser) Schell. Betty grew up in Sterling with her grandparents and many aunts and uncles in the area. She graduated from Padroni High School in 1961 and attended Northeastern Junior College until she met and married Edward Webb on September 7, 1963. They moved to Casper, Wyoming briefly and then on to Le Mars, Iowa where they settled for over 20 years. Betty took pride in being a stay at home mom and wife while immersing herself into the Le Mars community. She was actively involved with the school, Little League and liked to volunteer. She worked outside the home washing dishes at Floyd Valley Hospital and worked as a secretary at Gehlen Catholic Schools until she moved with her family to Apache Junction, AZ in 1985. Betty worked as a Pharmacy Tech for Osco Drug and a hotel supply company but she never really liked the heat and her heart was still in Le Mars. The family relocated back to Le Mars after a year in Estherville, Iowa. In Le Mars she worked for both Walmart and The Abbey Nursing Home, before retiring from Plymouth Manor Care Center.
Betty loved to celebrate and decorate for ALL of the holidays. She also enjoyed sewing clothes, embroidering, quilting and making pillow cases and Barbie outfits. She showed her love through food and often delivered soups and meals to her friends and neighbors. She was known for being frugal, yet generous. Betty loved people and never met anyone she couldn’t or wouldn’t visit with. She was practical, no-nonsense and loved genuinely. She loved to watch or listen to sports and could often be found listening to a high school football game on KLEM.
Betty formed many meaningful friendships in her life that felt more like family, including, but not limited to the ladies in her card club, BGA, co-workers and Holy Hour group. Many thanks to all her friends, in particular to friends Jolene Wiltgen, Mary Lee Neubrand and friends she lost, Ann Boetger, Diane Steinfadt and Margie Schroeder who loved her like family.
She is survived by her three children, Eddie (Pam) of Le Mars, IA, Karen of Ankeny, IA and Kevin (Sam) of York, PA; four grandchildren, Cam’ron and Tamden both of Ankeny, IA and Kaitie and Peyton of York, PA; sister, Mary Ann Zink of Iliff, CO; brother-in-law, Ron (Shirley) Webb of Moorland, IA, sister-in-law, Joan Webb of Boone, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
