Obituary for Meredith Marie Reuter (Nuebel)
Meredith Reuter, 85, of Marcus, Iowa passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Masks and social distancing will be required. Father Bill McCarthy will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 4-7 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Monday.
Meredith Marie Reuter was born on November 4, 1935 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Mildred (Kunkel) Nuebel. She was raised in Remsen, Iowa where she graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School. On April 18, 1956, Meredith and Ronald Francis Reuter were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. She and Ron made their home on a farm near Marcus, Iowa. Along with assisting Ron on the farm, Meredith, in her earlier years, worked as a receptionist for Dr. George in Remsen. She found that she also had an amazing talent for interior painting, wallpapering and varnishing. She enjoyed making a home beautiful. Meredith and Ron moved from the farm into a home of her dreams in 1999.
Meredith was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and participated in St. Ann’s Guild. She was instrumental in the remodeling of the church and rectory and took an active role in the restoration. Family was the central focus of her life. She followed her children’s activities as they grew and later her grandchildren’s functions. She enjoyed shopping for anything from home décor to clothes. She was teased by her family that she had and unusual amount of shoes. Some things that she and Ron enjoyed was fishing, traveling and gambling. They enjoyed the time with their friends. They also played in card clubs and Meredith socialized with the Neighborhood Club.
Grateful to have shared her life are her children, and their spouses, Gary and Pat Reuter of Remsen, IA, Jay and Carol Reuter of Marcus, IA, Allan and Darcy Reuter of Marcus, IA and Rhonda and Dale Schreier of Remsen, IA; a son-in-law, Rodney and Beth Ebert of Marcus, IA; her grandchildren, Dawn (Ryan) Stodola, Mike (Crystal) Reuter, Nick (Colleen) Reuter, Tonya (Brian) Goodburn, Chris (Kayla) Reuter, Ashley (fiancé, Paul Buttars) Reuter, Jamie (Laura) Reuter, Eric Ebert, Jackie (Robert) Prunty, Zach (Shaina) Reuter, Molly Reuter, Kelli Hueser and Brad (Lindy) Schreier; 24 great-grandchildren, sisters, Betty (Jerry) Moeller of Rockport, TX and Lois (Jim) Fisch of Burlington, IA; brothers, Randy Nuebel of Scottsdale, AZ and Tom (Rita) Nuebel of Okoboji, IA; several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; and a daughter, Renee Ebert on November 24, 2006.
