Obituary for Margaret "Peggy" Honz

Le Mars, Iowa – Margaret “Peggy” Honz, 82, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Le Mars, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate.

Margaret Honz was born on April 3, 1939 in Staten Island, New York to William Woldan. She graduated from Tottenville High School in 1956 and in 1960 received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the State University of New York at Oswego. Peggy taught elementary school in Syracuse, New York for eight years. In June of 1966, she and Robert Pettit were united in marriage. The couple had two children, Kathy and Carolyn.

Peggy and Robert moved to Juneau, Alaska where she taught school for a year and raised her daughters. The family relocated to Peru, Nebraska where Peggy took some classes and worked in the library at Peru State College. While in Peru, Peggy started and led a Girl Scout troop in her community where there were limited opportunities for youth. She was an avid supporter of libraries and reading. In 1983, the family moved to Le Mars, Iowa. She moved to Plymouth Life and worked in the kitchen for ten years. Peggy and Robert divorced in 1988. In 2002, Peggy moved to the Abbey of Le Mars and met Dennis Honz. They were married on February 13, 2003.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kathy (Yuji) Tanaka of Tokyo, Japan and Carolyn (Don) Mcghghy of Indianapolis, Indiana; three grandchildren; a brother, William Woldan of Lake Worth, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dennis Honz.
