Obituary for DarLeen Joyce Reskie (Olson)

DarLeen Joyce Reskie, 94, of Le Mars, Iowa, formerly of Marathon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Floyd Valley Heathcare in Le Mars. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, at Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars. Pastor Mike Metten will officiate. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.

DarLeen Joyce Reskie was born on February 5, 1927, in Rembrandt, Iowa, the daughter of Albert R. and Lula (Bertness) Olson. She was Baptized and Confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. She attended school in Rembrandt, graduating in 1946. On June 2, 1946, DarLeen and Charles Burdette Reskie were united in marriage at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. They made their home on a farm near Marathon, Iowa.

Along with assisting her husband with farming, DarLeen was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Marathon. She served as Circle Chairman, Vice Chairman and other offices within the church. DarLeen also taught Sunday School and Bible School.

DarLeen and Burdette moved to Spencer, Iowa where Burdette passed away in 2002. She moved to Remsen, Iowa in 2012. She relocated to Le Mars, Iowa in 2015 and lived at Floyd Valley Apartments and Park Place Estates. DarLeen was a caring individual that enjoyed helping and doing things for others. She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare-time, DarLeen enjoyed yardwork, crafts, baking, cooking, reading and sewing.

Grateful to have shared her life is her daughter and her husband, Angela and Dennis Nemmers of Le Mars, IA; grandchildren, Kevin (Erika) Nemmers of Le Mars, IA, Theresa (Doug Kane) Nemmers of Brandon, SD, Cory (Heidi) Nemmers of Le Mars, IA; Seth Reskie and Zion Reskie of Sheldon, IA; Kimberly (Chris) Lange of Sibley, IA; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Joshua Analeigh, Evan, Jacob, Maddie, Lennon and Hendrix; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Steven and Kent; sisters, Lauraine (Russ) Adams, Verlette (Leo) Meyer, Marvella (Burt) Anderson and Dorothy (Al) Cerny; brothers, Clayton (Joyce) Olson, Meldow (Harriet) Olson and Vernon Olson; a niece Marilyn Versteegh; and a nephew, Leland Olson.
