Obituary for Dr. Dennis Means

Dr. Dennis A. Means, 70, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Private family services will be held at Marcus Amherst Cemetery.

Dennis Allen Means was born on January 13, 1951, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Gladys (Geringer) Means. He attended school n Marcus, graduating from Marcus High School in 1969. Following high school, Dennis attended the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. He first practiced in Marcus with Dr. Haines for a few years. After that, he moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to practice until his retirement five years ago. Upon retirement, Dennis returned to Marcus where was currently residing.

In early years, Dennis coached his son’s baseball and basketball teams. He would later coach an adult softball team as well. He also did a fair amount of golfing in Arizona.

Grateful to have shared his life is his twin sons, Steve Means and his children, Matthew and Jordyn of Marcus, IA, and Bill Means and his son, Brandon of Alta, IA; his parents, Vernon and Gladys Means of Marcus, IA; and a sister, Deb Heath and her husband, Mike of Sioux City, IA; a sister-in-law, Judy Means of Marcus, IA; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Duane and David; grandparents, Humphrey and Lena Means and Bud and Alice Geringer.
