Lyola Catherine Hansen was born on September 15, 1931, to Carl and Lavina Hansen in Worthington, MN. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1949 and was the first and only member of her family to graduate from college at Mankato State with her teaching degree. Mom was an elementary teacher in Slayton, Magnolia, and St. Mary's Catholic in Worthington, Minnesota. She often joked she couldn't teach kindergarten because she couldn't sing or play the piano however, she was a gifted artist.

Mom met our Dad, Arnie Tonner, in Primghar, Iowa, while helping wait tables at her friend's restaurant. On February 12, 1955, they were married in Wheatridge, Colorado, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They enjoyed traveling the world during their 50 years of marriage and had four children: Mike, Sue, Cathy, and Janet. We lived in Worthington, Minnesota, Huntington Beach, California, and Le Mars, Iowa as a family.

Mom's hobbies included bowling in the woman's league, being a member of St Joseph's pinochle club, walking, playing cards with family and friends, and playing board games. She also loved crossword puzzles and a GOOD book.

She had a great love for Minnesota and its sports teams. She loved that she watched the Twins play at Target Field during their inaugural week. Mom and Dad had a running bet for each Minnesota Gophers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes. Loser bought the steak dinner! And, of course, we can't forget her love for Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson.

She was a devout Catholic praying the Rosary daily. She was a member of the Ladies Guild and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed delivering meals on wheels annually for St Joseph's.
Mom was devoted to her children, grandchildren and was affectionately known as G.G. to her four great-granddaughters. She attended many of their school activities and sporting events. She was a great Mom and loved dearly.
