Obituary for Anna J. Alesch

Anna J. Alesch, 95, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Timothy Pick will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

Anna Josephine Alesch was born on September 20, 1926, in Danbury, Iowa. She was the seventh of nine children born to Michael and Tacyanna (Macina)Slota, immigrants from Ukraine. She attended school in Grand Meadow, graduating in 1945. Following graduation, Anna received her cosmetology license and opened a beauty shop in Kingsley, Iowa. She operated her shop until marrying Lorne Alesch in January of 1951. They made their home on a farm near Marcus.

Anna was an active member of the CD of A and St. Ann’s Guild of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. She was known for her hospitality and her baking skills. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, traveling, and always another hand of Pinochle with her friends.

Grateful to have shared her life are her four children and their spouses, Larry and Bev Alesch, Dave and Arlene Alesch, Doug and Sheila Alesch all of Marcus, IA and Mary Beth and Dennis Horstman of Arlington Heights, IL; 10 grandchildren, Gerry, Abby, Bart, Emily, Molly, Chad, Jessica, Kevin, Annie and Craig; 15 great-grandchildren; Owen, Wyatt, Reagan, Noah, Charlotte, Caden, Aly, Natalie, Gabrie, Savannah, Trigg, Addyson, Josie Anna, Rhett, Reed and a sister, Mary Slota of Dunsmuir, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and five brothers.
