Timothy Lee Cargin was born 3 ½ months premature in Omaha, Nebraska on August 28, 1988. He spent 3 months in the NICU in Omaha. He was later diagnosed with cerebral palsy. When Tim was 4 years old, his family moved to Brooklyn, New York to enroll him in a special program called Conductive Education. The community rallied around his family and donated money so the whole family could go live in New York for 6 months while Tim went through this intensive therapy program. When the family moved back to Le Mars, Tim continued with the therapy techniques he learned utilizing the help of family, therapists and home care aides. He later attended Le Mars Community Schools for middle school and high school. He especially enjoyed Adaptive PE and History class while in school. He made many friends in high school. One of his jobs in high school was to deliver the school news to the various school offices where he made friends with many staff members.

Tim attended church, youth group, and Campus Life where he learned about God. He was very free and open to ask people if they knew God. Tim was known for his charming smile and sense of humor. He was a passionate football fan from an early age. He especially loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Kansas City Chiefs and of course the Le Mars Bulldogs. He was able to attend many football games of his favorite teams. Make a Wish sent him and his family to the Orange Bowl in 2004 where he met Dallas Clark. They hit it off and Dallas later wrote Tim a letter with autographed football cards and pictures when he became a pro football player for the Colts. Tim was also a huge Chuck Norris fan and had a chance to meet Chuck and get his autograph and a picture with Chuck.

Tim moved to Village Northwest in Sheldon, Iowa when he was 19 years old. He loved his staff and fellow housemates. Tim had a busy and full life at the Village which included bible study, classes from the local community college, sports talk group, a reading group, therapy, cooking class, and a job shredding paper with a adaptive switch. Tim was on the Adversary Board at the Village where he served a term as president. He took this job seriously and enjoyed meeting with staff and fellow residents. Another passion of Tim’s was listening to books on tape. He loved action books that involved military, FBI, things blowing up and mystery. Tim had a large collection of movies; everything from Disney movies to John Wayne to Star Wars to high action movies.

Tim loved his family and life. He was upbeat and loved people. He always wanted to know what was going on in people’s lives so he could encourage them and pray for them. Tim’s short life impacted many people and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Grateful to have shared his life are his parents, Sharon and Rich Cargin; brothers and their wives, Luke and Stefanie Cargin, Levi and Libby Cargin all of Le Mars, IA; a sister, Sarah Cargin of Louisburg, NC; nieces and nephews, Emily, Isaac, Abigail, Olivia, Barrett, Grace and Emma Cargin of Le Mars, IA; grandmother, Wilma Cargin of West Bent, IA; grandfather, Ron Smith of Le Mars, IA; and several aunts and uncles and cousins.
