Obituary for Betty Lee Taylor (Aldrich)

Le Mars, Iowa – Betty L. Taylor, 92, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars. Private services will take place with burial at Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.

Betty Lee Taylor was born on July 11, 1929, in Iowa City, Iowa to William and Helena (Hoffman) Aldrich. She graduated from Atlantic High School. On February 7, 1951, Betty and Mack Taylor were united in marriage in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Betty worked for IPS, later called Mid-American Energy for 26 years.

Betty volunteered at the Senior Center for many years and delivered Meals-on-Wheels. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and traveling. Betty loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her best friend of 65 years, Jean Heidbrink.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Brandt (Jan) Taylor of Lancaster, CA, Julie (Brandon) Marienau of Sioux Falls, SD, Christie (Mark) Thorpe of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Shannon Sawyer, Meredith (Lukas) Marcotte, Sarah (Johnny) McMurtry, Andrea Marienau, Megan (Stephan) Goter, Jessica Swihart and Erin Thorpe; great-grandchildren, Catherine Slade, Aiden, Emma and Cara Sawyer, Caitlyn Taylor, Kyliegh Marcotte, Coulter and Samantha McMurtry, Alexander and Elizabeth Goter, Jacob, Makenna and Peyton Swihart; several nieces and nephews, including her close niece Jocelyn Drabelle of Lake City, MN.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Mack; her parents; in-laws, Jasper and Leta (Sheumaker) Taylor; her brothers, Phil and Warren Aldrich; brothers-in-law, Maurice and Mervin Taylor and Don Owen; sister, Jeanne Owen and Beth Drabelle; sisters-in-law, Mary Aldrich, Mabelle Aldrich and Gladys Taylor.
