Obituary for Frances H. "Frannie" Zembsch

Frances H. “Frannie” Zembsch, 94, a lifelong resident of Marcus passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022 at a Sioux Falls hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus with Father Timothy Pick celebrating the Mass. Visitation will be Monday, August 15, 2022, from 3:00-6:30 P.M. with a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 4:00 P.M. at Earnest Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. Burial will be at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery in Marcus, Iowa.

Frannie was born to Henry and Mary (Schmitt) Zembsch at Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, IA on August 3, 1928 and joined two sisters Mary and Margaret at home. She graduated from Holy Name High School in 1946, where she learned Liturgical decorating and continued that with Holy Name Church to the present time. Frannie served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Homebound Minister for many years with Holy Name Church and was also a member of St. Ann’s Guild and Catholic Daughters of America.

After graduation from high school, in the fall of 1946, Frannie began learning to be a legal secretary in the L.J. McGivern Law Firm. She worked there until 1969 and then began working in the Charles F. Knudson Law Firm until she retired on October 1, 2018.

Frannie enjoyed doing a multitude of different hand crafts including ceramics and needlework. She was also a member of the Farmers State Bank Golden Age Group and traveled with them on many very interesting trips including Washington D.C. and Alaska. She was a member of the Marcus Community Fair Kids Parade Committee for many years and for that cooperation and participation received a Memorial Award in 2004.

Frannie was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mary Zembsch, sisters: Mary Jackson (Charles) and Margaret Bobolz (Harold), and several cousins and friends.
