Inez A. Heien, 90, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Countryside Health Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 10, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Inez Arlene Heien was born on was born on September 8, 1932, in Smithland, Iowa, the daughter of Alva and Effie (Clark) Seaton. On July 29, 1950, Inez and Charles Smith were united in marriage in Sioux City, Iowa. They made their home in Sioux City and later South Sioux City, Nebraska. Inez worked as a housekeeper at the Roadway Inn in Sioux City. She later worked as a nurses’ aid at local nursing homes. Charles passed away on September 4, 1980.
On February 14, 1981, Inez and Kenneth Heien were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. They made their home in Le Mars. Inez was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Eagles Club for 35 years. Kenneth passed away on December 10, 2015.
Inez spent time outdoors fishing and camping as well as travelling. She liked dancing, crossword puzzles and watching westerns. She also spent a great deal of time with her children and grandchildren.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Carol Roberts of Creston, IA; Chuck Smith of South Sioux City, NE, Ralph Smith of South Sioux City, NE, Larry (Patty) Smith of Sioux City, IA, Audrey Navrude of Le Mars, IA, Ron (Pam) Smith of South Sioux City, NE, Deb (Butch) Buys of Westfield, IA, Bob (Kelly) Smith of Sioux City, IA; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Charles and Kenneth; a daughter, Alice Holgate; a daughter-in-law, Margo Smith; sisters, Birdie, Pauline, Ada, Alice Marie, Charlotte Mae and Audrey; brothers, Henry, Orthel, Chris, Leslie, Paul and Willis.
