Obituary for Aurel Jean Skotvold (Falk)

Le Mars, Iowa – Aurel Jean Skotvold, 95, of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Dells Nursing and Rehabilitation in Dell Rapids. A Celebration of Life for lifelong resident Jean will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Le Mars (27071 C16). Reverend Trish Underberg will officiate. Anyone who knew Jean is welcome to attend to help us celebrate a life well lived. The Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars is assisting her family with arrangements.

Jean Skotvold was born in Le Mars, Iowa on August 29, 1927, to Frank A. and Nellie (Bowers) Falk. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1945 and then attended business school in Iowa City, Iowa. On August 29, 1949, Jean and Clarence Skotvold were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Jean assisted Clarence on the farm and was also a homemaker. For a few years, Jean worked at Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars. She volunteered at the Christian Needs Center in Le Mars for 17 years where she was nominated for the Employee of the Year. Jean was a wonderful quilter and she made and donated 12 quilts over the years to the Plymouth County Fair for the Life Skill’s auction. Jean lived on the farm in Le Mars until she was 87 years old and then moved to Sioux Falls, SD. She was a member of Renner Lutheran Church in Renner, SD, and later Christ Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars.

Jean is survived by her children, Brenda (Jim) Lintz of Hermosa, SD, Elvit (Helen) Skotvold of Sioux Falls, SD and Gary (Eileen) Skotvold of Sioux Falls, SD; grandsons, Boe (Robbie) Lintz, Brian (Kristy) Lintz and Jason (Jenny) Skotvold; great-grandchildren, Trent Lintz, Rylee Lintz, Jack Lintz, Gavin Skotvold, Tenley Skotvold and Trey Irving; and her nephew, Robert Falk.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence in 2002 and her brother Elvit Wayne Falk, who was killed in service on January 1, 1945, during WWII.
