Obituary for Michael Matthew Wiener
Le Mars, Iowa – Michael Wiener, 71, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in Redwood Falls, Minnesota while traveling. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Michael was born in Le Mars, Iowa on March 20, 1952, the son of Albert and Elda (Ludwig) Wiener. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mike graduated from Hinton High School in 1971. Following high school, he enlisted in the Air National Guard, 185th Unit in Sioux City, Iowa until his honorable discharge. While in the guard, Mike worked with his brother Ernest E. in the family farming operation. He occasionally helped his uncle Ernest W. on his farm. Brother Randy joined Ernest and Michael in the farming operation. A brother, Arnold, farmed with the three brothers for a couple of years. A simple farming partnership with Ernest E., Mike and Randy was formed in the early 1980’s. During the following years, Ernie and Randy passed away, leaving Mike with the farming operation. He continued farming for two more years before retiring in 2016.
Michael’s faith was a vital part of his life. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars and ushered for many years. Mike also belonged to Farm Bureau. He enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing in Minnesota as well as spending time with his family. Mike had a great time with his nephews and nieces, likewise, they enjoyed spending time with him.
Grateful to have shared his life are his siblings, Darrell (Janet) of Le Mars, LaVonne of Le Mars, Leland of Le Mars, Arlene of Le Mars, Arnold (Kelly) of Nemaha, IA, Marylyn (Don) Muecke of Hinton, IA, Elaine (James) Droegmiller of Cushing, IA and Pat (James) Verrips of Sheldon, IA; a sister-in-law, Doris Wiener of Burnsville, MN; an aunt, Gail Wiener of Le Mars, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Elda (Ludwig) Wiener; grandparents, Chris and Frances (Heimgartner) Wiener and Herbert and Katherine (Casper) Ludwig; infant brothers, James and Carmen; a sister, Glenda; and brothers, Ernest, Randall and Thomas.
