Obituary for Carl Edward Schwartz
Carl E. Schwartz, 58, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Orange City Area Health System. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Timothy Geitz will officiate. Burial will follow at the Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday.
Carl Edward Schwartz was born on April 23, 1964, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Wayne and Mildred (McKee) Schwartz. He was raised in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1982. Carl worked at various occupations prior to taking a position with Wells Dairy in the milk plant. He continued when the plant changed to Dean’s Foods and later Kemps. Carl was there for over 30 years before his health forced his early retirement.
Carl became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in 2000. He would serve for several years as a Trustee. He enjoyed traveling and camping, especially at Hillview Recreation Area near Hinton, Iowa. He and his best friend also made several “Crop Report” trips throughout the years.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Melinda Schwartz of Le Mars, IA; his children, Alex (Darci) Schwartz, Jaclynn Schwartz and her daughter, Katrina, Sarah Schwartz, and Andrew Schwartz; his adopted granddaughter, Carly; his mother, Mildred Langel; six brothers, Dean (Karla) Schwartz, Clarence (Cheryl) Schwartz, Mark (Susan) Schwartz, Emory Schwartz, Ken Schwartz, Wayne (Erin) Schwartz; father-in-law, Melvin Fritz; sisters-in-law, Melanie Fritz and Mary (Ray) Conlin; close friends, Joe Galles and Dave Moir; a special buddy, Yogi; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; step-father, Roman Langel; mother-in-law, Janet Fritz; and his grandparents, Henry and Hillary Schwartz, Jessie and Beulah McKee and Alfaria “Tootie” Jacobson.
