Obituary for Kevin Gerard Alesch

Kevin G. Alesch, 62, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at the Cherokee Specialty Care following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. Father Timothy Pick will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2023, at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Tuesday.

Kevin Gerard Alesch was born on April 20, 1961, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of James and Margaret (Kellen) Alesch. He attended school in Marcus, Iowa, prior to enlisting in the United States Air Force. Kevin began his service on October 21, 1983. He served overseas in England until March 6, 1986 and earned his discharge in 1988.

Kevin returned to the family farm in Marcus. He farmed with his father until 1991 when they had their farm sale. Kevin then took a position at Marcus Lumber where he worked for several years. He also worked for Schmillen Construction and then with Tentinger Feed Lots.

Kevin was an avid Chicago Bears football fan. He enjoyed NASCAR, demolition derby and worked on the Schmillen Racing pit crew. His passion was farming and driving tractors and trucks. He enjoyed cooking and Mexican food, the hotter the better! His neighbors in Cherokee will remember how helpful he was and assisted them with many projects.

He is survived by 4 sisters, Kim (Randy) Daum of Alton, IA, Kelli (John) Plumb of Carlisle, IA, Kay Schat of Marcus, IA, Karla Solko (Bruce) of Aurelia, IA; 5 brothers, Kirk Alesch of Marcus, IA, Kris (Lisa) Alesch of Early, IA, Ken (Melanie) Alesch of Le Mars, IA, Keith Alesch of Sioux City, IA, Kory (Jamie) Alesch of Remsen, IA; along with aunts, uncles and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and five infant siblings.
