James Ronald Schoenrock was born on August 7, 1939 on the family farm near Hinton, Iowa to Earl and Lois (Gutknecht) Schoenrock. He was the first baby born in Plymouth County to use the new incubator, weighing in at 3 pounds. He was Baptized by his grandfather, Theodore Gutknecht at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton and Confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. He attended country school until the 6th grade and transferred to Le Mars High School where he graduated in 1958. On February 26, 1960, Jim and Marilyn Calkin were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. They were blessed with four children. Jim worked as a Union carpenter for 25 years and with Schoeneman Lumber for 13. On April 15, 1988 Jim received a liver transplant at the University of Omaha Hospital and battled many surgeries for cancer along with numerous trips to various hospitals throughout the years, all with a positive outlook and a little sense of humor.

Marilyn and family When my late husband came to Grace Lutheran Church in 1988 his first hospital call was to see Jim as he was having the liver transplant. Thus began a journey of getting to know your family and Jim. Jim had a wonderful laugh and seemed to have 9 lives. He would laugh about his latest ailment That was a great attitude and showed what a good Christian he was-he knew God would get him thru what ever happened. Marilyn you were a great mate for him-job well done!! You are in my thoughts and prayers! Margaret Fett

So many fond memories have flooded back to me about Jim. During the years we worked together at Hillview, I learned so much from him about carpentry, Boy Scouts and his faith. I am a better person for having the privilege of knowing Jim. May God's blessings continue to support you and give you comfort. Dennis Sohl
